Good morning church, WEEKLY READING LUKE 8:1-15
The world is still in panic mode. But don't worry, in yesterday's message to the nation, right after thanking faith groups for not meeting, our Prime Minister told us to "trust science". If you trust science, you'll discover you evolved from fish, that the world was the result of some cataclysmic explosion, that we live for ourselves, that there is no God, nor future release from this decaying world. Doesn't sound very hopeful, or give great meaning and purpose to life. I praise God for His truth which fills me with peace and joy, a hope and a future.
In today's reading (Luke 8:1-15)...there is no "social distancing"!!! The crowds are gathered to hear the God of the Universe speak - the one who created the heavens and the earth, and made you and me. He is going from town to town proclaiming the Kingdom of God! Those who have been touched, healed and set free by Him, are following Him from town to town. The crowd is now large! And he uses this opportunity to teach them what is truly important: to have the word of God deeply planted in your heart!
With the word of God well rooted in your heart, you can resist the attacks of the devil (vs. 12). With the word of God well rooted in your heart, you can have lasting joy, that will help you overcome the tests of life (vs. 13). With the word of God well rooted in your heart, you can get through life's worries and fears, have your priorities straight, and you will produce lasting fruit (vs.14 &15).
How are you handling the pressure of social isolation and distancing? Can you rely on what you have been putting in your heart for comfort, peace and joy? What a great time to be in the Word of God, alone, with your spouse and children, with others in online chat groups. As the song says, "I'm standing on the promises of God", not those of my Prime Minister. Read the word! Plant it deep in your heart!
Have a great week!
Remember, Don't isolate! Stay connected to one another via social media, including the telephone.
