Walking in the Truth
It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth,
just as the Father commanded us.( 2 John 1:4)
(Take a moment to read 2John)
Hello Beloved!
I am praising God today for all the people in my life that are an encouragement because of their walk in the truth! The last few years of our lives on planet Earth has been filled with lies and deception, rampant sin, corruption, war, people falling away from the faith, prominent pastors falling into gross sins, and public leaders of the political and religious type embracing all kinds of teachings and beliefs that are opposed to the word of God. Yet, in the middle of all the crazy, I see a beautiful bride emerging, the chosen few who have decided to love Jesus and His word, and to press deeper into Jesus and the scriptures. These people are being transformed by their desire to remain pure and true to the faith we have come to believe so profoundly. They are bolder, stronger, and more steadfast. As they persevere to apprehend Christ in all His glory, they are going from glory to glory (2Cor. 3:18). The love of the truth in a world of lies causes the true followers of Jesus to anchor themselves in the only truth worth pursuing – the truth of the word of God! When one is anchored and convinced of the truth of scripture, there is no wavering, and blowing around to follow the ever changing current of deception (Eph. 4:14).
This letter, written by the Apostle John to either a specific woman and her children, or an actual church and its members (for the “chosen lady and her children” may be cryptic language to protect the church at a time of persecution) is a warning to beware of heresies, brought by travelling false teachers. It has huge application for us as heresies and false teaching are continually infiltrating our churches as people watch all kinds of “Christian” material online with little discernment to filter out truth from error. These false teachers are invited into our homes with one click of a button! These teachers deny the deity of Christ, and His coming in the flesh (vs. 7), and do not continue in the teachings of Christ and abide in His commandments (vs.9). From these individuals, we are to stay away (vs. 10-11).
The Good news is that as heresies come in, true followers of Jesus run to Jesus and His truth to search out the truth for themselves. This is what I see happening, and for which I praise God. Jesus is the truth and His commandments and teachings are truth to be followed. When I hear these individuals talk, I hear them spending more time with Holy Spirit - the Spirit of truth (John 14:17; 15:26; 16:13) who guides us into all truth as we study the word of God. Notice how the truth unites us in fellowship and relationship because it causes us to really love one another (vs. 1). Together we have a deep knowledge of the truth and walk together in in the commands of our Lord, which strengthens our love for one another (vs. 6). Obeying and following Jesus is proof we love Him (John 14:15) and each other (1John 1:3-7). We know the truth (vs.1); the truth lives and abides in us (vs. 2); grace, mercy and peace will be with us as we live in communion with God and each other (vs. 3); walking together in the truth causes great joy, which has been commanded us by the Father (vs. 4); Walking in truth together produces love for each other (vs. 5-6).
Friends, God is on the move! Followers of Jesus are becoming stronger in their faith as they spend more time with Jesus and His word. The church is strengthening as believers fellowship together on a deeper level. People are growing and the body of Christ is stronger as we unite together in truth and love. This is the silver lining to the dark clouds that cover our land. When the church becomes strong and focused on her mission to spread the truth of the gospel, revival and city transformation are not far behind! Let us be hopeful for soon the darkness will flee and the glorious light of Christ and His bride will shine brightly for those who are called to be added to the church. Good days are coming!
Personally, let us pray the prayer of David: “Teach me your way, O LORD, and I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name” (Psalm 86:11). Corporately, let us train up and disciple the children (younger believers and each other) to walk in the truth even as David did with his own son:
“And keep the charge of the LORD your God: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in all that you do and wherever you turn; 4 "that the LORD may fulfill His word which He spoke concerning me, saying, 'If your sons take heed to their way, to walk before Me in truth with all their heart and with all their soul,' He said, 'you shall not lack a man on the throne of Israel.” (1 Kings 2:3-4 NKJ)
Glorious days are coming for the church! Let’s walk in love and truth!
Be Blessed!
